Much like a page of history, telling the time, date, place and most importantly, what you had bought. Commonly used as a proof of purchase for rebates, expenditure tracking and just ‘space' in your wallet, receipts are your kind(a) past record.

Why is my humble receipt that important? While we may not realise immediately, receipts are copies of its digital counterpart, hence making it a part of a data collective. Such collectives combine to form statistics that could be attached to your identity, thus forming a huge collection of data (also known as Big Data).

The use of data can be manipulated to get commonly frequented places, your purchase habits and your habits, as illustrated here in this case study.

True identities are important in keeping our Socials genuine.

it is also important that we take control of our data by making sure we do the right thing and keep our identity personal.

Short answer: not really.

Reducing your disclosure doesn’t only amount to destroying your receipts. Take for instance, tearing your receipts doesn’t mean your data is lost forever. Hence, it is important we reduce our risks by doing more!
